Pictures of Ballarat

Sovereign Hill has a new extraordinary evening show called AURA. It is a three-part sound and light show. The first part is a 3-D experience in an indoor theatre. The show dealt with the origins of the earth, resulting in the creation of gold in the hills of Ballarat. The audience then got on a train to go to an outdoor theatre where we all stood and watched a light show projected on a hillside which was about Aboriginal legend. The last part was a depiction of the Eureka Stockade incident. (Too hard to explain here.)

The show was amazing. We were lucky as it has only been open a few weeks. By chance, we were able to talk to one of the guys who runs it afterwards.

This is the original name of the mansion where we stayed in Ballarat.

This stable was made out of stones...certainly a different color than the stone buildings in Western Australia.

This is a typical miner's cottage in Ballarat. Many are this size and have a metal roof. The veranda's usually have a curved metal roof.

This style of roof is seen on many cottages.

We visited the wildlife park. They had many koalas.

I now love wombats!

Cara and the wombat.

Ellen watching me feed the kangaroo.

I guess these two are "authorized personnel."
